Season 25 - Week 8 League Update
In the oncoming night of this league, as all hope fades and darkness closes in, I cast my eyes about for hope, any hope, that the Emperor’s realm is good and great… What is that I see before me? A shape on the horizon… It’s the shape of a wolf! ~ But before we get there, I wanted to make a couple of announcements. First, sign-ups are open for the Big League’s next season. Visit https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/sd-gamers/san-diego-big-league-1211938792 to register now. The next league starts on July 22nd. Second, one of the benefits of this league is that you get to use the tables at At Ease Games for free. Some players who are signed up for the North County/TTS league have tried to use this benefit for their north county games. This's not cool. When you’re playing your Big League games at the store, you get the cool 3d printed terrain for free, otherwise you’ve got to put down a ten spot for the table.
The real question is do Neil Braden’s Space Wolves bring hope or doom as the Emperor’s Executioners stand poised to sweep ahead of current front runner Tre O'Rourke and his World Eaters. Tre has played all his games and with one loss, a few weeks ago, he left a wolf sized gap which Neil seems poised to walk through. The final game of Pod 1 comes down to Neil’s game against Benbo's Drukhari. If Neal beats Benbo this Pod is sewn up for the Wolves. Technically, Benbo could still win it (highly unlikely) if he beats Neil (and Patrick’s Tyranids) he has a shot.
Imperials dominate Pod 2 with Adam Funk’s Adepta Sororitas sweeping the Pod with five wins. Congratulations buddy, you earned that. Randy Robinson’s Space Wolves and Tony Baumayr’s Astra Militarum round out the green zone and will be advancing to Pod 1 next season. The battle for the penultimate pod is always fierce and this season was no exception. The knife fight for Pod 3 is seemingly a four way tie with 20 points separating Evan Berry’s Black Templars, Coop Guice’s Tyranids, Jeremy Larson’s Astra Militarum and Victor Campos’ Blood Angels. It may all come to naught if Jason Cleveland’s Grey Knights can pick up one more win. He is the only player left in this bloody pod with a 4/1 record, our quad of front runners having 3/2, and could sweep past them all by picking one more win.
In Pod 4, after the ringers have been counted Mike Mental’s Death Guard will step past Timothy Sweet's Blood Angels in a pungent step of defiance. Tim’s loss against Nick Hernandez’ Black Templars earlier in the league is a drag on his golden wings. Nick has a punter’s chance to step into the lead if he can either win against Wolflord Russ ’s Space Wolves or a ringer. With The Wolflord having not completed the league (at this point), Nick could pick up full points for his ringer win while Mike’s ringer win only counts for half because his scheduled opponent didn’t drop. This is a lot of 'ifs' and 'mights', so I am calling this one for Mike. ~ Congratulations, my lord of smelly things.
Tau and TSons are dominating the green zone of Pod 4 with Alex Ivanov’s Tau, @Stephen Caliendo’s Thousand Sons each holding three wins and a loss. Tim Gorodnitski’s T'au stand pat with three wins. Any of them putting up a win at this point will take the top spot and it may simply come down to who can get in a game in the last week of the league. Sam Black’s Orks glower atop Pod 6 with a 4/1 record while @Paul Gyori’s Blood Angels (in second place) still have one game to play. If he wins it, he’ll take the Pod. Similar to the situation in Pod 1, he could still win it if he takes a loss, he’d just need to put up a high scoring loss that’d take him ahead of Sam’s green skins. That’s too risky~ he just needs to win.
