S27: Week 8 Update: Over the top, Lads!
I can see the end. It’s just over that rise. There really isn’t that far to go. Gather your strength men. Be ready for what’s over there. I’m going to blow this whistle and we’re all going over the top at the same time. But first, we have to wish everyone good luck at the Cali-Cup this weekend. This home-grown event is a great way to wrap the season and get in some awesome games! And now, over the top!
The once and future king has retaken his throne atop Pod 1. Stone Freedom (Rock Liberty)’s Thousand Sons have cast a spell over the top spot and it’ll be tough to break it. Victor Campos’ Dark Angels have penitently bowed their head and moved into second place. If Rock loses his last game and Victor wins his, there’s a chance that Victor, having reigned so long at the top, could take it back~ but the math is too complicated and I don’t see it happening. I’m placing my money on the One Eyed King, the Drone Lord, the Red King, Magnus’ Vessel, and my best friend when the apocalypse comes~ congratulations Rock!
Like the wolves of Isengard Neil Braden’s Space Wolves are prowling around the top of Pod 2 looking for anyone still living… and they’re finding none. Neil does have a loss on his record and there are some theoretical outcomes that might threaten him. A quick look at the math, however, (not my strong suit) seems to say that he’s locked it down. Congratulations Neil. Pod one awaits. Hans Lieber’s Death Guard and Jeremy Larson’s Astra Militarum have made it to the green zone to earn a spot to advance to Pod1 next season but there are still some punters that could threaten that.
Tony Baumayr’s Astra Militarum and Coop Guice’s Blood Angels have their guns trained on each other in Pod 3 and it remains to be seen who will pull ahead. Tony is ahead right now with only 7 points more than Cooper and each of them with 3-0 records. There are many in the Pod that could threaten these two frontrunners, however, the clock is ticking and it’d take a huge feat for anyone else to get in enough games to become a real threat.
Like a hive ganger who finally made his ammo check, Pod 4 has come to life in the last few weeks of this league. Joe Bravo’s Salamanders have established pole position. Jean Evora’s T'au and James McCarthy’s Astra Militarum have taken the second and third spots in the green zone as they round the last bend of the track. There are a number who could threaten these frontrunners seeking to move up to Pods 2 and 3. Chris Krogen’s Adepta Sororitas, for example, are in a great spot to do it. With the clock running low, all he has to do is get in another win and he’ll leap into the second spot. This is assuming none of the previously mentioned punters don’t do the same.
With 70% of their games played, Pod 5 is looking pretty close to being resolved. Like a Space Marine in a video game wandering around shooting wounded termagants there are a few games left to play but I am not sure it’s going to change the outcome. Miles Vollenweider’s Drukhari continue to look down on the arena from their box seats while James Kang’s Dark Angels and Jeremy Salgado’s Adeptus Custodes have secured their spots on the shuttle to the upper Pods. There are some options for others in the Pod to grab Jeremy’s spot but the ramp is going up and it’ll be tough for them to get onboard.
I have nothing but love for my Pod 6 peeps (the love a Drukhari has for his slaves) because they have 92% of their games played! You guys are stars (stolen suns, to be more specific)! Kory Marlatt’s Adeptus Astartes hold the top spot with a 4-1 record. Others in the green zone have similar records showing just how much of a knife fight this pod was. None are leaving the pod without a bloody nose, a black eye, or messed up mascara. Michael Pogrebinsky’s T'au, Evan Burnsworth’s Tyranids, and Michael Ernst’s Blood Angels all return to the castle with laurels atop bruised faces~ but all are heroes in my book! Congratulations Kory.
