S28: Week 6: grab the bloody chalice

The new year tumbles over the old like so many fresh cadets charging over the ramparts... Sign ups are live for the first league of the new year! Season 29, Fulgrim’s Glam Glow Up, will start in late January and is the best way to kick off the new tournament season right after LVO. Sign up now. https://tinyurl.com/4v5jkdbd

In Pod 1 we see that Victor Campos’ Heretic Astartes have run out of steam (with five games played) and weren’t able to breach Jeremy Larson's Astra Militarum bastion at the top of the Pod. At this point Hans Lieber’s Death Guard are the only other force without a loss to their name. If Hans can pick up two more wins he’ll move into the top spot. Interestingly, if that happens and Jeremy can beat Coop Guice's Blood Angels (not an easy feat), we will have two players in the Pod with 5-0 records. In that case, it’ll come down to points which gives Hans the edge.

With Tony Baumayr’s Astra Militarum well entrenched at the top of Pod 2 (only Justin Morris’ Astra Militarum can take it from him at this point but with no games played, he's going to have to hustle), Juan Diego Vasquez’ Space Wolves and Benbo’s Drukhari are battling to stay in the green zone. With less than half the games in the Pod completed, I think there’ll be a lot of dice thrown before we can figure out who gets to keep the second and third spots. We see a bit of a holding pattern in Pod 3 with David Susko’s Adeptus Mechanicus still holding onto the top spot with twin wins and losses. Michael Pogrebinsky’s T'au are in the second spot with a 2-1 record.

Michael Ernst’s Blood Angels have only one game to play in Pod 4 to shore up his grip on the top spot. With a loss on his record, however, as with last week Michael is holding the gate open for Dustin Lindgren’s Black Templars to step into the chapel and grab the bloody chalice. Dustin has no losses on his record and if he can keep it that way only Marc Torres's T'au could challenge him to win the Pod. In Pod 5, Michael Kornberg’s Necrons have again taken the top spot pushing Eric Horne’s Adeptus Custodes back to second place. The back and forth between these two is interesting to watch and as long as they keep winning games, it’s going to come down to points between them. One loss for either of these guys will open the top spot for the other.

Happy new year to all and good fortune in the wars to come.
