S28: Week 7: as smug as Xanathar
Welcome to week seven of The Big League! I am excited to see people getting their games in despite the store not being available for games. I have heard rumors that the store will re-open this week. Whether it’ll be open for games is another thing. Stay tuned. Their new address is 8400 Miramar Road #250. Swing by and check them out. In other news, make sure you register for the upcoming league. Registration for Season 29 is now open. (https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/sd-gamers/san-diego-big-league-start-1-27) Don’t wait. Last time people waited until the last minute and it was a big head ache for Coop. Don’t make him angry, you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.
Like the big bad at the end of a long and twisted dungeon crawl, Jeremy Larson’s Astra Militarum awaits in their lair (aka Pod 1) for the inevitable arrival of the adventurers. Jeremy has a right to be as smug as Xanathar~ he has five solid wins under his belt. Victor Campos’ Heretic Astartes, in second position, won't make it to the final battle. Victor has a 3-2 record which means he ran out of gas to make it beyond second. Hans Lieber’s Death Guard (currently in third) are the only ones left without a loss on their records and, as such, are the only ones left who can challenge Jeremy. With all Jeremy’s games played, it’s clear now that Hans must win is last two games and he must win them by more than 95 points in order to win this adventure.
Tony Baumayr’s Astra Militarum has long been the lord of Pod two. Juan Diego Vasquez’ Space Wolves and Benbo’s’ Drukhari are battling to stay in the green zone. With a 55% completion rate there are still some opportunities for folks to battle for second and third spots.
The big guns have started to report in Pod 3. Like the Predator Matt Geyer’s Adeptus Mechanicus have appeared out of the jungle of Pod 3 into the top position with three solid wins. With two games left to play, he’s got a lot of room to fend off anyone else who chalks up a third win. James Carmona’s Heretic Astartes will be hunting the top spot. With no losses on James' record, he’s the most likely to target Matt with a creepy tri-laser targeting device. There are a number of others with two wins (and one or two losses) to their names who are like those dudes shooting randomly into the jungle hoping Matt or James pick up a loss so they can get back in the hunt.
Michael Ernst’s Blood Angels are locked in a mud wrestling match with Dustin Lindgren’s Black Templars at the top of Pod 4. It’s not pretty as Michael is winning due to a loss on his record. If Dustin can keep his record clean, he’ll slip into the winning position. Marc Torres’ T'au are the only others in the Pod without a loss on their records, so they may be able to step around the muddy mess, not get any mud on their bikini, and take the pod. If Dustin or Marc pick up a loss it opens the door for a bunch of folks, including Michael to stay in the fight.
Michael Kornberg’s Necrons continue their reign atop Pod 5 with three wins and a loss. There are a huge number of punters following him with 2-1 records. Shane Yirak’s Death Guard, once ringer games have been tabulated, is in the second spot with a 3-1 record. I am watching those without any losses on their records. If Paul Kandal’s World Eaters or Stone Freedom (Rock)’s Genestealer Cultists can get in their games and keep losses off their records, they’ll move into the top spot stepping past our frontrunners. There are a number of players who have no games played and, at this point, I am assuming they won’t get them in.
Get your games in, you have two weeks to go! And remember if we win here we will win everywhere. The world is a fine place and worth the fighting for and I hate very much to leave it.
