S29: Week 7: The Furnace of War

The mighty and the brave dwell here in week 7 of the San Diego Bog League. They dwell in the furnace of war and right now, it burns white hot. Super great to see the high completion rate in each Pod. We have an overall completion rate of 75% and with two weeks to go, we are really in a great spot to get to 100%. Please remember to register for our 30th Season~ Coopocalypse! Like the slow march of a warlord titan or the inevitable decline of the Imperium, Matt Geyer’s Chaos Demons have marched their way to the top of Pod 1. I have been watching Matt’s undefeated climb to the top of this ladder over the last few months and now he has arrived. Only one player remains to slow him down and allow others a chance at the top spot. Stone Freedom (Rock Liberty)’s Genestealer Cult are scheduled to play Matt’s last game and while Rock can’t win the Pod (with two losses on his record) he can do a solid for others and put a loss on Matt’s record. This would open the door to Hans Lieber’s Chaos Knights, Jeremy Larson’s Deathwatch or Juan Diego Vasquez’ Adeptus Custodes, who’re all 2-1. Even if Rock puts a loss on Matt’s record (his current record indicates he won’t), Hans, Jeremy, or JD will have to throw up some high scoring wins to top Matt’s climb. With the aperture closing, I am going to give this one to Pod 1's new arrival. Congratulations Matt~ you’re back!

Dustin Lindgren’s Death Guard remain atop Pod 2 but like men of Rohan at the Hornburg he’s surrounded without many places to go. All Dustin’s games are played and Neil Braden’s Imperial Knights are bearing down on him. All Neil has to do is pick up one more win and he’ll win the Pod. Perhaps some elves will show up to Dustin’s aid. If this does happen and Neil can’t make it to five wins, the door opens again for Jake Jesionowski’s Grey Knights to make a play for the top spot. Jean Evora’s Deathwatch is making a play for the top spot in Pod 3 putting up five wins. Eric Horne’s Adeptus Custodes are facing him down with four wins and one game left to play. With a 4-0 record, Eric has one more opportunity to prove his golden boys are the Emperor’s best fancy boys. If Eric can pull out a win, it’ll be a twin 5-0 finish with points settling the score. This gives Eric the edge as his games have been higher scoring than Jean’s.

The battle for the green zone in Pod 4 continues to rage like Angeron on his third resurrection in a game (Timothy Sweet’s Orks took the win weeks ago). Greg Kellen’s Necrons hold the second spot for now but with all his games played there’s room for Juan Jaquez’ Astra Militarum or Stephen Luxford’s World Eaters to take it. They’ll be scrambling for points to eject Greg’s Necrons from the Green Zone so both of them can advance next season.

Justin Jones’ Chaos Demons are still atop Pod 5 with three wins and a draw. Jeremy Crossley’s Astra Militarum and Soren Jorgenson’s Adeptus Mechanicus both have twin wins and losses and are staring across a battlefield of broken bones and wrecks to see who'll pull ahead (it's Jeremy for now). All this may be moot as David Pavan’s Death Guard, currently in fourth and with no losses to their name, is in a better spot to take the whole thing if he can keep a loss off his record and sweep the Pod.

Daniel Fortini’s T'au has made a play to own the bloody pit fight that is Pod 6. Daniel has swept the Pod with five wins and you’d think that’d mean he’d be able to claim the Pod but there’s still a path for Tyler Lee’s Ultramarines (currently in third) to take it. If Tyler can put up a fifth win, he has a considerable lead over Daniel in points, so he may be able to take it. This struggle will come down to the wire! Jason Butler’s Blood Angels with a 4-1 record will most likely remain in the Green Zone and advance but whether he holds his second place finish is far from certain.

As we near the end of our season, it’s a good time to check in with our meta. Right now, the winningest faction in our league is Blood Angels with nine wins over three players. That’s a pretty good indication of their strength right now. Demons are in second with seven wins contributed by two players (both Pod winners right now). And Death Watch, IG, and Ultramarines are all tied for third with six wins for each faction. Let’s see if we can get to 100% completion for your Pod and remember, for those who seek perfection there can be no rest on this side of the grave.
